Chelsea Shinder: Specialty Prior Authorization Associate

National CooperativeRx is pleased to introduce Chelsea Shinder to our members and partners! Chelsea is the Cooperative’s specialty prior authorization associate, a position that provides technical and administrative support to the Cooperative specialty prior authorization (PA) process and other clinical initiatives, collaborating closely with our PA coordinator and clinical services team.

Chelsea, originally from southern California, pursued general studies at the College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita. Initially, Chelsea held several managerial positions within the retail sector. However, she grew an interest in the healthcare industry during conversations with her sister, who worked in primary care. This led Chelsea to transition to an insurance specialist at a clinic specializing in physical therapy, chiropractic care, and regenerative therapy. In her role, Chelsea reviewed clinical notes included in referrals and prior authorizations for procedures at the clinic. She worked closely with the clinical staff to ensure comprehensive examinations and testing were conducted before continuing with treatment plans. Chelsea stated, “While some may consider digging into the details of diagnoses and procedures tedious work, I find enjoyment in piecing together information and understanding the rationale behind treatment plans.”

When the clinic transitioned into a primary care office specializing in neuropathy and pain management, Chelsea demonstrated her adaptability by quickly obtaining knowledge about new diagnostic assessments and treatment plans. During her five years at the clinic, Chelsea progressed into a managerial position within the front office, gaining additional responsibilities and embracing new challenges.

Chelsea is eager to learn more about the pharmaceutical side of the healthcare industry and the determining factors involved in prescribing specialty medications. “Having witnessed the challenges my family members faced with their specialty medications, I believe it will be a rewarding experience to provide high-quality support to individuals like them,” said Chelsea.

Chelsea currently resides in Fort Worth, Texas, with her five-year-old son, Grayson, and 8-month-old Labradoodle, Willie (inspired by Willie Nelson). An avid lover of the outdoors, Chelsea enjoys camping, hiking, and beach trips when in California. Chelsea reminisced about camping at the beach every summer while growing up. A fun fact about Chelsea is she has also lived in Fairbanks, Alaska, where she witnessed the Northern Lights and encountered frequent moose sightings.

Welcome to the National CooperativeRx team, Chelsea!
