Wilmari Laureano-Melendez: Clinical Services Manager

National CooperativeRx is pleased to introduce Wilmari Laureano-Melendez to our members and partners! Wilmari joins the Cooperative as a clinical services manager, a position that focuses on providing clinical support to our specialty prior authorization program. Her day-to-day responsibilities include assessing cases for clinical appropriateness, suggesting alternative therapies, and consulting with patients and providers regarding treatment options. Wilmari is now one of six in-house pharmacists at National CooperativeRx.

Wilmari was born and raised in Puerto Rico. Growing up, her father was a pharmacist and owned an independent pharmacy. Inspired by her father, she pursued her doctorate of pharmacy from Nova Southeastern University in Puerto Rico. After completing her degree, Wilmari moved to Madison, Wisconsin, where she became a staff pharmacist at a retail pharmacy, dedicating the past five years to serving the community. In her day-to-day role, Wilmari’s responsibilities encompassed a range of tasks vital to the operations of the pharmacy. This included accurately dispensing prescriptions and communicating thoroughly with patients and nurses regarding medication administration, dosing schedules, and adherence. She also provided supervision and guidance to pharmacy technicians to uphold the highest standards of patient care and safety.

Although she enjoyed the retail pharmacy space, Wilmari had a greater fascination for prior authorization processes and sought a new professional challenge. When the opportunity arose to join the Cooperative team, she felt it was the right time to pursue a different path. Wilmari said, “My profession is rooted in service and integrity. I found National CooperativeRx’s values to resonate with these principles.” She continued, “I believe in carrying out tasks in the right way with the right intentions, a belief shared by the Cooperative.”

Wilmari is eager to become a clinical expert in the pharmacy benefits space. She stated, “I am excited to explore a different aspect of my profession, fully embracing it as an opportunity to challenge myself and broaden my expertise.”

Wilmari resides in Madison, Wisconsin, with her husband, Luis, and six-month-old daughter, Milena. Each week, she tries new places to eat, but her go-to spots in the Madison area are Ancho and Agave and Gloria’s Mexican Restaurant. Wilmari also enjoys reading and traveling. She has traveled to many places including, Spain, Peru, and the Dominican Republic. However, her favorite vacation was to Italy where she visited Milan, Rome, Venice, Florence, and Cinque Terre.

Welcome to the National CooperativeRx team, Wilmari!
