Pat Shier: New Secretary/Treasurer Elected to Cooperative Board

National CooperativeRx would like to congratulate Pat Shier for becoming the new secretary/treasurer on our Board of Directors!

Following his predecessor Joy Matthews’ completion of a six-year term on our Board last month, Pat was elected by the Board to fill the opening of secretary/treasurer. Pat, Alaska Membership Representative at Pacific Health Coalition (PHC), has served on our Board since December 2019 and we are thankful to benefit from his continued leadership in this new capacity.

When asked what motivated him to become our secretary/treasurer, Pat responded, “My desire to further use the experiences accumulated in my career thus far and continue serving alongside a great group of folks coalesced around important goals.”

Founded in 1994, PHC helps its members control health care costs by negotiating better pricing on health care services than the plans could obtain on their own. Based in Anchorage, Alaska, PHC currently boasts 48 participating member groups which consist of 250,000 lives.

Prior to PHC, Pat worked for University of Alaska Anchorage as its vice chancellor and CFO. He has over 30 years of experience in key financial management positions. Pat studied accounting at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and is a Lean Six Sigma and Baldrige practitioner.

Originally from Fairbanks, Alaska, Pat relishes in the scenic beauty and outdoor activities his home state has to offer. In his free time, Pat enjoys reading, adventuring with his family, aviation, and fly fishing as often as possible.

“Pat is a proven leader and a natural fit to fill the role of secretary/treasurer for the National CooperativeRx Board of Directors,” said CEO Josh Bindl. “Members can be assured Pat will continue the longstanding history of prudent financial oversight over valuable member resources.”

We look forward to the ongoing value and unique perspective Pat brings to the Cooperative.

The Cooperative’s goals are always aligned with those of our members, as we’re member-owned and member-governed.
