Please join us in welcoming Henry Bertram, PharmD, RPh, to National CooperativeRx! Henry is our newest clinical services manager and will focus on providing clinical services to our specialty medication prior authorization program in 2023. He will also analyze and monitor drug utilization and plan performance, developing reports as needed. Henry is now one of four in our National CooperativeRx pharmacist team.

After growing up in Andover, Minn., Henry moved to Wisconsin to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He always knew he wanted a career in the healthcare industry but felt being a doctor or nurse was not the right fit for him. Having an interest in biology and chemistry, Henry decided to pursue a pharmacy degree. During clinical rotations in college, Henry gained experience in multiple healthcare settings, such as UW Health University Hospital and Agrace Hospice. After graduating from pharmacy school, he accepted a position with Walgreens and most recently worked for the Tomah VA Medical Center. While it was a fulfilling role, Henry thought it would be refreshing to get a change of pace. “National CooperativeRx is a unique opportunity that will allow me to expand my knowledge of specialty medications more than I could at the VA or a retail setting,” explained Henry.

When asked what he was most looking forward to in his new role, Henry expressed his eagerness to assist with the launch the specialty medication prior authorization program in 2023. “A vast majority of my day-to-day responsibilities will be reviewing specialty medication prior authorizations then approving or denying them. The clinical team at National CooperativeRx has been thoroughly constructing the program for months, and it has been fascinating to watch the process these past couple of weeks. I am excited to be a part of it and work with my fellow pharmacists to ensure patients are receiving the most appropriate care,” stated Henry.

Henry currently resides in Baraboo, Wis., with his wife, Rosie, who is also a pharmacist, and their 11-month-old son, Ira. As a family, they enjoy going to the Baraboo farmers’ market and hiking at Devil’s Lake State Park. Henry’s hobbies include practicing jiu jitsu in a studio a couple of times a week and woodworking. Reminiscing on his college days in Madison, Henry shared his memories of running along the lakeshore path and attending indie rock band concerts. “I did one of my clinical rotations just down the road from the National CooperativeRx office years ago. It feels like I have come full circle. I am happy to be back in the area where I created so many memories, and I am looking forward to creating more,” said Henry.

Welcome back to Madison, and welcome to the National CooperativeRx team, Henry!
