National CooperativeRx is a not-for-profit, member-owned cooperative business that was born from the need for an honest pharmacy benefits purchasing option, with a focus on service and keeping cost low. The cooperative was founded by a group of Wisconsin employer organizations that could not find what they were looking for in the existing PBM market, so they decided to pool their purchasing clout and create a new company with the teeth to tackle the black box of prescription benefits.
Originally founded as WisconsinRx, their mission was to ensure that incentives of the cooperative would always be in line with the needs and desires of the employer-owners. As a cooperative, National CooperativeRx is governed by a Board of Directors made up of member companies who are also the cooperative’s shareholders, reaping the rewards of dividends paid out when income exceeds expenses. Any new member that begins offering prescription benefits through National CooperativeRx becomes an equal owner of this innovative cooperative.
While paying out dividends is something we enjoy, it’s not what motivates us. Unlike for-profit companies, National CooperativeRx is able to put service above profit. Our members have asked us to make investments in the things that matter to them, such as regular, independent claims auditing, the development of cutting edge clinical programs and an expert staff dedicated to steering employees to safe, effective and affordable medications. Customer service is not just a priority for us, it’s the cornerstone of the cooperative business model.
